Regional Connect & the Environment

In the same way that Regional Internet Connect are committed to all our customers, we are also committed 100% to the environment. Since evolving into the Telecommunications Industry, Regional Internet Connect have taken the necessary steps to ensure that, as a company, act responsibly toward our planet and our environment.

Having made the decision to switch to green power, we now use 100% renewable energy in our main office in cairns. We also implemented "Green" guidelines to all our staff.  The simple step of reinforcing the fact that everyone can make a difference - even with little actions like switching off electronic devices before leaving the office, and recycling and reusing paper and virtualising our hardware where possible. We have made an important step by buying our consumables that are recyclable and where possible from our "green" like minded companies.  An example of this in our head office in cairns, that all our standby generators are fuelled by biodiesel, which is supplied by a local North Queensland business, nq pacific biodeisel.

In future when we introduce both new access and hosting products, we are committed to using server virtualisation. This ensures that less energy is used to run our servers, thus cutting our carbon foot print significantly. By using virtualised machine infrastructure reduces our energy consumption in turn lowers our carbon emissions, by allowing us to run our applications on fewer physical servers, which in turn reduces our overall power requirements.

By Regional Connect using virtualisation we plan to save in excess 50,000 kWh per year. That's as much energy as is consumed on average by 6 homes. Using virtualised machines therefore means using less resources which in turns leads to responsible environmentally friendly computing.

These are some of the initiatives that we at Regional Connect Internet have introduced to do our bit in the global challenge to help protect our environment and lower green house emissions.

We are interested in looing towards other opportunities to lower our carbon footprint.
